Building the institutional structure for a multi-funder programme

After being selected for major institutional funding, the Viva Pequena África consortium needed to transform an ambitious multi-organisation programme into a viable operational structure.

The consortium required a detailed financial model, clear governance arrangements and dedicated executive leadership to meet funder requirements and prepare for implementation.

Santi was engaged in three consecutive assignments.

The first developed the programme’s detailed budget and financial implementation model.

The second established the consortium’s joint governance model, defining institutional responsibilities, decision-making processes, accountability mechanisms and resource management arrangements.

The third defined the executive leadership profile and conducted the selection of the programme’s Executive Director.

Santi also participated in technical meetings to present and discuss the proposed financial and governance structures with BNDES.

The recommendations were accepted and implemented, and the Executive Director selected through the process was hired.

The work directly supported the completion of institutional and technical requirements associated with BNDES funding. It also helped establish the conditions that enabled contributions from the Ford Foundation and Open Society Foundations, alongside other leading Brazilian supporters.
